IN THE BEGINNING: Finlay Construction was founded in 1951 by Gerald Finlay. Starting with only a single-axle dump truck, Mr. Finlay was able to take his one-person operation and build it into a flourishing family business. He accomplished this by incorporating a strong work ethic with innovative customer service, as well as enlisting the help of his wife Margery, and children: Dwight, Glenn, George, and Mary Jane who now serve as co-owners and ​operators.

​​​EXPANSION: The operation has continuously evolved over the years, with a major expansion in 1982 which saw the addition of two gravel pits followed by their first crushing unit in 1984 which allowed the company to process and stockpile it's own materials. Finlay Construction now owns and operates 5 gravel pits in the Northumberland area, and has recently opened another gravel pit in the Bancroft area.
